Doggie Cakes - Launches Press Release

Following the Tampa Bay's 10 news segment about Doggie Cakes, we have submitted our press release to several papers and news outlets in the area. If you are interested in viewing the release or in including it up for distribution, click the following link.

Press Release - Dog Bakery and Boutique Pups Up in Downtown New Port Richey

Excerpt: "Many say that the treats and cakes 'look good enough to eat,' says Messano, 'but the items that we bake and prepare on-site are only for lucky dogs and do not contain sugar, salt, or preservatives.' She added, “We are using human-grade ingredients that dogs love, including meat, poultry, cheese, peanut butter, and fish.” As some dogs have known allergies the bakery case includes options which are non-dairy, non-wheat, or non-corn, and there are even a few vegetarian treats for pups that share their owner's lifestyle."

Wanted! Well Behaved Pets For New Gulfside Regional Hospice Program

While at their Yappy Hour tonight representing Doggie Cakes, we were able to see a new flier about the new pet assisted therapy program at Gulfside Regional Hospice. As our blog and website has been getting a lot of hits lately, I'm adding the details here for our local dog owners. It seems like a great opportunity for both the patients, pets, and new volunteers.

According to the flyer, "Research has indicated that pet assisted therapy can have a positive effect on the lives of those who are ill. Pet assisted therapy: reduces stress and blood pressure, increases sensory stimulation, inspires a sense of purpose, increases social interaction with family and staff, and reduces loneliness by creating a sense of companionship.

The pet assisted therapy program offers the opportunity for well-behaved dogs and their volunteer companions to visit hospice patients in a controlled environment. Gulfside Regional Hospice's goal is to ease the pain and suffering of hospice patients by providing optimal care both medically and with alternative therapies."

Do you have a well behaved pet that could brighten someone's day? Are you willing to certify your pet in order to become a pet therapy volunteer? If you answered yes to both questions, Hospice would love to talk to you and enroll you in their pet therapy program.

For more information, contact Kathie Poole and Heather De Los Santos at Gulfside Regional Hospice at 727-845-5707.

You can also support them by shopping at their thrift shoppes, volunteering, or donating on their website.

Hospice Yappy Hour Benefit - A Success in New Port Richey, FL

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery's, Trina Messano and Gigi (seen doing her tongue trick) were in attendance at the second Yappy Hour held by Gulfside Regional Hospice. Photos of the event are in our Picassa gallery.

Doggie Cakes baked to donate fifty mixed bags of cookies for the doggy bags and Natural Planet Organics TM gave us two bags of dog food for the raffle. The $10 donations per attendee dog, benefited their fine non-profit organization, which provides support and care to patients with life-limiting illness and their families.

It was a great success with other vendors purchasing table space, or donating raffle prizes and giveaways. Fifty-one dogs and owners had a great time at Tijuana Flats from 4 - 7 on June 8, 2008. This was the location at 10900 Unit 101 State Road 54 in New Port Richey, FL 34655 (Google Map). This restaurant has a Yappy Hour every Monday, from 4 - 7, featuring $1.00 drafts for of-age-humans, and treats for any-age canines.

For future dog-related events, planned in support of Hospice check the local newspapers, this blog - and our MySpace for any details that we receive. You can also support them by shopping at their thrift shoppes, volunteering, or donating on their website.

Doggie Cakes was on Tampa Bay's 10 News!

June 4, 2008 - Doggie Cakes - Bakery and Boutique was on Tampa Bay's 10 News! The video aired in the 4:00 pm hour and featured Trina and group of dog customers and their owners.

We got the surprise call the day before from reporter Katheryn Bursch, that she planned to come out around 10:30 am. Her intention was to meet and interview some dogs and customers. Trina made some excited, but frantic calls to some loyal and willing customers and pooches who were willing to be on camera.

Ms. Bursch and cameraman Dennis Hollingsworth were very nice and really had a handle getting the best shots and in asking great questions. The interviews and filming took about two hours and captured everything from customer testimonials, an interview with Trina, shots of the bakery case and store, and all aspects of baking and customer shopping.

The story was present on their website from early in the morning, and we watched as it gradually changed to almost narrate the video.

We felt a bit misty to hear the nice things that our customers had to say about our treats. We really appreciate the news team that discovered the store, covered the story on site, and who put this all together for television and the web. A special than you must go out to those who were taped for the segment: Julie Leonard and Dixie, Lorraine Blackwood and Velvet, and Peter Caravette. Dan Leonard and Teenie, Filipa and Jay, and Rob Isselbaecher of were also filmed or ready for their cameo.

We had not launched our press release yet, and had only been open 28 days before we made the television news! We are still excited and happy. Within a half-hour of airing, a customer rushed in with much enthusiasm as they didn't know we were in town and missed having a place to buy fresh dog cookies locally. By Saturday, we had another guest who mentioned the news segment, this time all the way from Clearwater.

Photos of the filming, including all of the behind-the-scenes and deleted shots are included on a Picassa gallery.
