My First Dog - Early 1970's Family Film Recovered

We had an old family film digitized and posted it onto our YouTube site. It's from the early 1970's in West Milford, NJ and has footage of me (Trina Messano) and my first dog Tuffy - a Collie. You can also see my Dad, Alfonso Messano and his garden. My brother Dominick Messano (with the dark hair) is playing with his friend Joey. We had not seen this short movie in over 30 years - but it is now preserved.

Tuffy was a great dog - looked just like Lassie. She lived to be a ripe age of sixteen. Our next dog, Bradley, a mutt - probably with some Labrador in him, was also very loved. Bradley stayed in New Jersey when we my parent's moved to Florida in 1991. In 1992 I got my toy Poodle, Pebbles, who lived to be almost sixteen also.

We currently live with three dogs, Luna, Cosmo, and Gigi Nibbler - oh and the five cats and one bird. Still building memories - while baking dog treats.

1000 MySpace Friends for Doggie Cakes

Doggie Cakes Dog Bakery and Boutique made our one thousandth friend on MySpace.com this week. This was just in time to let them know about Pet Photos With Santa in the store on Saturday, December 20th, 2008 - 11 am - 2 pm. All donations are in support of SPCA Suncoast, and the fine work they do.

Want to be friend 1,001? It's a great way for us to communicate about in-store events, yappy hours, and things that will make your dog's tail wag.

Doggie Cakes - Runs Richey Suncoast Theatre Program Ad for the Holiday

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique will reach some new audiences (literally) during the Pasco Christmas 2008 - "Christmas Memories" show at the Richey Suncoast Theatre in New Port Richey. We bought season tickets for the first time this year and look forward to seeing the holiday show this weekend.

To try another marketing angle with the community, we purchased a small ad in the program for this show, which is probably sold out. As a new advertiser, we were told that we get a mention on stage prior to the show also, so that's really nice. The attendees seem like a nice group - hope they have dogs, doggie friends, or grandpups. The first two shows of the season were Sweet Charity and Lost in Yonkers. After the current show, you still have a chance to see My Husbands Wild Desires Almost Drove Me Mad, Crazy for You, and Hello Dolly closing the season in May 2009.

Doggie Cakes - Returns to The New Port Richey Farmer's Market

Doggie Cakes will return as a vendor at the New Port Richey Farmer's Market for two dates in December 2008 - Saturdays - the 6th and 27th. The move from Cavalier Square to Railroad Square on Nebraska Avenue, seems to be attracting new shoppers and dog owners - as you can see the Market from Grande Boulevard now. The timing is also right as our website and physical store are both in good order, so we can divide our efforts. We stopped selling at this weekly event in June, in order to focus on our Main Street store, special events, marketing, and wholesale orders.

If you have not already checked out the Farmer's Market, it runs every Saturday from 9 AM - 1 PM. Nebraska Avenue is East of Grande Boulevard and one block South of Main Street, in New Port Richey. This map is pretty close to the intersection. On days when we are not a vendor, we'll be shopping and visiting with our dogs. Our store is open from 10 am - 6 pm on Saturdays - See you soon.

Christians Boutique Fashion Premiere - December 13, 2008 - NPR, Florida

Doggie Cakes Dog Bakery and Boutique ran a business card sized ad in the program for the upcoming "A White Hollywood" Fashion Premiere. This day of fashion was organized by Christians Boutique - 5728 Main Street, New Port Richey, FL 34652 and will be showcasing their top designers and great ideas in fashion. Light refreshments will be served. (Christians Boutique - MySpace.com)

All profit of the event goes to Missionary Ventures, an international Christian organization that connects individuals and churches worldwide with local or indigenous ministries. This group supports the development of churches, schools, feeding centers, orphanages, clinics and hospitals in over fifty countries.

Doggie Cakes is open until 6 pm on the day of the event, and there will also be a holiday shopping stroll and parade in town - so be sure to stop by.

Doggie Cakes - Blog - Indexed by Category

It's exactly 10 months today since Doggie Cakes wrote its first blog. It was only yesterday that we learned how to index the 70 entries that show the evolution of the business, products, events, and partnerships that we have developed. There are currently 24 categories that you can view our blogs with. My favorite category is Making Moves because it shows every new development from baking at home and selling in the local flea market, to renting a store with commercial kitchen and becoming a wholesaler and retailer. The term "making moves" has to be credited to our friend Maximo Lora, who is supportive of our efforts and uses the phrase for any impressive new marketing or product developments. The first round of categories is below. Check it out.

Cats, Dogs, Dog Friendly, Events, Yappy Hour, Holidays, Products, Treats, Toys, Cakes, Coupons, Rescue Groups, Suncoast SPCA, New Port Richey, Safety Harbor, News, Marketing, Making Moves, Community, Charity, Hospice

Our Cats Love Kitty Mouse Gourmet Cat Treats

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique is proud to present Kitty Mouse - Gourmet Cat Treats. We have experimented with baking our own treats for cats, but so far our cats are not 100% behind them. We recently purchased these healthy cat treats from one of our suppliers and all four of our cats love them.

The treats come in Salmon and Vegetables, and also in Duck and Vegetables. In addition to the meat broccoli the ingredients are cauliflower, blueberries, apples, cranberries, alfalfa sprouts, parsley with vitamins & minerals to enrich the nutrition. Each flavor is packed in a 7 ounce vintage inspired can.

We continue to develop our own line of cat treats, but in the duration - support and make these treats available to you and your cat friends.

Gigi Nibbler and Luna of Doggie Cakes have DoggySpace Pages

Cosmo made eleven doggie friends in just a few hours on Doggie Space. Three more friends than he is old.

We let Gigi Nibbler and Luna create accounts today too. I'm actually having a hard time not writing this blog from a dog's perspective, it's kind of addictive. Check out their pages with the link's below. We have been carrying on rapid conversations with other dogs tonight. Many of them are from the Doggie Cakes neighborhood, in New Port Richey. I feel a few meet-ups coming along. Woof Woof.

Cosmo Gigi Nibbler Luna

Read an excerpt from Cosmo's Doggie Space journal.

"Daddy wanted to buy me some little blue socks today because my feet get hot on the sidewalks. I always soak them in my water bowl after a walk. Mommie would not let him buy them because she thought I would not wear them.. I think she would not let me have them, because she did not want to be seen with me wearing them."

Cosmo of Doggie Cakes has a DoggySpace Page

Many of you are familiar with Cosmo, the min-pin who works part-time at Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique in New Port Richey, FL.

Well, he just got a DoggySpace page, but has no friends. If you want to connect with Cosmo, check him out online. He's eight years young and likes to snack on doggie treats and snuggle in his blanket.

According to the site,
"Doggyspace is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who love dogs. People use Doggyspace to keep up with friends, upload funny dog videos, and to give their dogs their own cyber place."
If the social scene works out for Cosmo - and he stays out of trouble, we may let Luna and Gigi Nibbler also create accounts. Pretty soon they will all want cell phones!

Fat Cats Invade Doggie Cakes, New Port Richey, FL

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique has become a fan of the dog and cat toys by Fat Cat, Inc. They are durable, brightly colored, and have funny designs such as the Big Mean Kitty. All of the Fat Cat products are currently both online and available in the barkery's boutique. Gigi Nibbler - a Bug (Boston Terrier and Pug), our most aggressive toy tester has met her match.

The story of Fat Cat Inc. goes back over fifteen years when a husband and wife began a family tradition of exchanging handmade toys for all of the family cats during the holidays. Beginning as a joke, it eventually turned into an annual cat toy competition. According to their website, they joined forces with Bamboo, a division of Munchkin, Inc. and are one big happy family in North Hills California.

Doggie Cakes - Slow Cooker Recipe for Applesauce

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique makes its own applesauce for use in some of our recipes, including our Apple Cinnamon Squares and some cakes. Currently the apple items are only available in our store, not in our online shop.

We won't reveal our treat or doggie cake recipes, but here's how to make one ingredient, and an applesauce that is great for people too. No sugar or preservatives added.

Home-Made Applesauce
Add the ingredients into a slow cooker (crock-pot) for eight to ten hours on low. That's it. Refrigerate after it cools.

Ingredients
6 apples, peeled and cored (we use red delicious)
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon of cinnamon

Blue Sink Monthly - Blogs Doggie Cakes

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique was pleased to discover that Blue Sink Monthly: An online magazine serving West Pasco County, Florida, published a blog about our store, in their premier issue. The article is very positive, well written, and does a great job in highlighting our store.

We were intrigued about this new site, as obviously we are blog fans, took the survey and signed up for updates. It's sharp with three enthusiastic contributors: Kristi Leach, Angélique Weger, and Meghan Sheehan (who put together our story). Although this was only the first issue, it seems that the blog will be and creative source of information about all things West Pasco. Check out the reason behind their very interesting blog name. Best of luck Blue Sink Monthly and thank you. We will be reading.

Doggie Cakes Visited by Owners of The Turtle's Nest - Coastal Decor and Gifts

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique had a visit in late June by Angie and Paul Jones, proprietors of The Turtle's Nest - Coastal Decor and Gifts. Their store was in the same location as the current Doggie Cakes for many years and is currently at 10720 SR 54, Suite 102 - Trinity Village - Trinity, FL 34655. (The Turtle's Nest - Google Map)

The turtle mural that made their store easy to find is still located outside of doggie cakes. Someday the mural may go to the dogs, but for now the turtle's are still swimming.

We wish The Turtle's Nest the best, down in Trinity Village. Their new location is lovely and and has room for all of their nice gift items and home decor products that they are famous for. Stop by and tell 'em that Doggie Cakes sent you.

Cosmo, The Donut King, on His Throne at Doggie Cakes - New Port Richey

Cosmo found a comfortable spot on top of some donut beds at Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique. A leaning tower of four beds to be exact. As we are trying to sell these, we quickly took this photo and then showed him where his own bed was. He was too funny today as he did this twice - both effortlessly and with great pride.

We are guessing that one more donut would put the top of the pile out of his reach. The beds are by Room Candy and sell for $35.89 in our store.

Come and visit and bring the dog or dogs. Meet Cosmo, Gigi, or Luna and check out our doggie donuts and doggie donut beds.
